Practice Lab

2022 Tax Software

The Practice Lab is a tax preparation tool that provides volunteers the opportunity to gain practical experience with the actual software that will be used at most sites when assisting taxpayers. Students may find the Practice Lab helpful for completing their practice exercises, comprehensive problems, and test. Volunteers should wait until the software is updated with 2022 figures and tax law changes (usually mid-November) before preparing any return preparation scenarios in the test, as test answers are based on current year amounts.

A universal password will be needed to access the Practice Lab. Your Instructor, Site Coordinator, or other VITA/TCE volunteer contact will be able to provide you with the universal password. Once you access the Practice Lab, you will need to create a unique User ID if you do not already have one.

When entering Social Security numbers (SSNs) or Employer Identification Numbers (EINs), replace the Xs as directed, or with any four digits of your choice. Use your city, state, and ZIP code when completing any of the forms, unless otherwise indicated. Any software question not answered in the return scenarios can be answered as you choose.
