Eligible Educational Institutions

As outlined in Education Credits in the Volunteer Resource Guide (Tab G), to claim an education credit, taxpayers must have paid the higher education expenses to an eligible educational institution. These are generally any accredited postsecondary institution eligible to participate in the student aid programs administered by the Department of Education.

Eligible educational institutions include colleges, universities, vocational schools, or community colleges. The student can find out from the school if it is an eligible educational institution. A searchable database of all accredited schools is available at http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation.
