This lesson covers tax credits that help taxpayers offset the costs of higher education by reducing the amount of their tax liability. Conduct a probing interview based on the taxpayer's intake and interview sheet, Education Credits in the Volunteer Resource Guide (Tab G), and the rules for claiming education credits.

During the interview, ask taxpayers if they are aware of the education credits and give a brief description of each. Next, gather information to determine if any credits can be claimed.
