2006 AMT Assistant

Welcome to the 2006 AMT Assistant

In order to determine whether you may be required to pay the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT), we will ask you a series of questions.

  • Most people using the 2006 AMT Assistant can complete the AMT worksheet using this tool in 5-10 minutes.

Before You Start

  • If this return is for a child under 18, special rules apply; see the 2006 Form 1040 Instructions for Line 45 instead of using the 2006 AMT Assistant.
  • Have your draft 2006 Form 1040 available, completed through Line 44. You will be entering information from the 1040 and Schedule A (if used).

    • If you are attaching Form 1116 (Foreign Tax Credit) to your return, you may also be asked for information on Form 1040, Line 47.

    • If you are attaching Form 8914 (Exemption Amount for Taxpayers Housing Individuals Displaced by Hurricane Katrina) to your return, you will be asked for information on that form.

Remember the answer you get is only as accurate as the data you enter!
